I was born in Southwold in 1968, on the northern edge of town that borders Easton Marshes, just a short walk from the sea.
I was a foreman brick-maker at a traditional hand-made brickworks at South Cove for 3 years before attending Lowestoft Art School (1990-92) and Manchester Metropolitan University (1992-95). After graduating in 1995 I began to produce drawings in mixed media, which eventually evolved into paintings for exhibiting. I continued the theme of my Degree Show which was a portrayal in both two and three-dimensional pieces of my native Suffolk Coast, my family history and the varied relationship spanning several generations it has had with the sea. In 2003 I gave up my position at Lowestoft College to further my painting career.
Working in mixed media my paintings are an attempt to capture elements of sea and coastline found along the North Sea coast. I often explore the juxtaposition of large open skies with strands of finely detailed horizons. I am particularly drawn to the vast open stretches of our coastline that feature remote or derelict buildings or structures. Orford Ness and its strange enigmatic landscape, peppered with unusual structures which betray its hidden past is a favourite and regular subject.
I currently live and work in Southwold, Suffolk, and am the founder of the Sole Bay Motorcycle Club.
